Direction for upgrading from Netware to OES2

Hi Guys

I am new here and wanting to upgrade from Netware 6.0 to OES2 that runs with SLES.

I am new with Linux and want to get this process carried out once and for all.

I would be very grateful if someone can point me in the right direction in terms of

1) Where to start?
2) Books? Free Training available?
3) Common Issues
4) Groupwise and edirectory migration
5) Migration tool?

Kind Regards

Mohamed

I'm not aware of a book specifically dealing with migrations and any
OES2 books out there will not cover SP3

Lack of preparation and testing.

eDirectory would be covered as part of Netware to OES2 migration but
GroupWise is a separate subject for which you might want to invest in
Danita Zanrè's guide to moving GroupWise[1].

You should use the Migration Tool GUI that is provided with OES2 (rather
than any previous Migration Wizard or other utility provided with NetWare).

HTH.

Re: Direction for upgrading from Netware to OES2

Check out my "guides" that may help explain some things.

There is (or at least was) free training for NetWare to OES2 from an "admin" perspective.

Technical, Business and Training Resources for Open Enterprise Server Deployment | Novell User Communities

Common issues are usually that someone installs the OES2 code "wrong" (in the sense that they'll use all the disk space and not have a dedicated device for NSS). Assuming that is done properly, then LUM is another popular candidate for things to not work right (usually you have to make sure your tree is healthy before inserting an OES2 server in the mix) or LDAP needs some "adjusting".

GW migrations, both my guides and Danita's (Caledonia Network Consulting Home Page) cover various methods.

eDir migration in the sense of ID Transfer? Yes, check out my guides.

The only thing I've not quite done yet is the SLPDA to OpenSLP, which reminds me I have to do that.
