Does "TIME SOURCE =" use SLP, NDS, or DNS?

I have a mixed NetWare 6.0 SP5 and 6.5 SP3 environment. We're in the
process of configuring NTP on the network.

As we convert over from TIMESYNC to NTP, the question was raised as to
whether the following line:

TIME SOURCE = SERVER1

is using SLP, NDS (eDir) or DNS to resolve the server name. SLP and DNS
are configured on all servers.

The Novell documentation seems to point to DNS, but older documentation
mentions using the NDS server name. Personally, I thought the servers
would be using SLP, esp. since the domain path (e.g. SERVER1.yahoo.com)
isn't included.

Any ideas?

It uses SLP and/or DNS. NDS was used in older versions when Directory
Tree Mode was set to ON. That option is no longer available or functional.

Re: Does "TIME SOURCE =" use SLP, NDS, or DNS?

I always advise to use the actual IP address, as timesync does not do
name resolution of any sort very well, IMO

All of them, plus (if enabled) IPX e.g SAP/NLSP.
