Fast rename at Folders and Files not possible

Hello,

first: sorry for my bad english, its not my native 😛

We have installed SLES 11 SP3 with Novell OES11 SP2.

Our Users (Win7-Clients) get Shares from server with OES-logon-script. These are novell-shares.
Problem is: Some Users can't change, rename or edit files in a fast way.

for example:
User create a directory "Pictures" -> works
after this rename the even directory Pictures to "Pictures2" -> error - because file in use / file is opened in a program....

if u wait 20 seconds then u can rename it.

My question is: Why is it in use? Other Users have no access to it or haven't opend.
First i thought the mcafee-scanner blocked this, but a empty folder should not be 20 seconds in access by a av-scanner.

Regards,
cotec

First test would be to turn off the anti-virus to see if that makes a
difference.
What is the client version? Do you have other versions to try?
Does this problem happen when using a different file manager such as
TotalCommander.com that doesn't use Windows Explorer?

Re: Fast rename at Folders and Files not possible

Hello,

is the preview pane ("Vorsachaufenster") in windows explorer enabled? If
so please disable it because this mark a file as opened just when you
mark this file in explorer.

What is different about those users who see the problem than those who
don't experience the problem, especially when tested for it.

I've tried to reproduce this on a few different systems, but have not
been able to. I do recall this sort of problem in the past, so I would
be looking closely at the client versions involved. Every one I've
tried has been "Novell Client 2 SP3" and up. SP4 ir2 is the most
recent.

Clients have already Novell Client 2 SP4.

Is there a site in OES to view which files are in access?

You can view open files for example in Remote Manager: https://www.novell.com/documentation/oes2015/mgmt_remotemgr_lx/data/nssactions.html

Sort of, and the Thomas posted the docs link, or

in NoRM (Novell Remote Manager)
Manager NCP Services
Manager Shares
click on the (i) info icon in front of the share in question
Open File Information button
use your browser's search function for the file.

or you can look at one user has open under
in NoRM (Novell Remote Manager)
Manager NCP Services
Manage Connections
select a user, perhaps after sorting them to better find them

I have yet to find an equivalent to the old NetWare Monitor option
where you could browse directly to the file in question to see who had
what locks on them. the closest is the command line on the server of
the form
ncpcon files list f=/media/nss/VOL/folder/folder/file
not that this shows what exactly the lock is but can be of use.
