Fault with v4.91 client on Windows XP SP2

We have the latest client and the post patches right up to 491_nwfs_6.exe and 491_novnpnt_1.exe installed on our Windows XP SP2 workstations.

If we drill down in Windows explorer to a mapped drive on our Netware v6.5 SP3 server and drill further thru directories to some file and do a properties, Windows Explorer stops responding before opeing the properties windows and we get the following usual MS error:

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

On seeing what the error report contains it references netapi32.dll

Anyone have ideas as to what cause this and how to fix this?

Dale Bentley

Re: Fault with v4.91 client on Windows XP SP2

Dale,

Is the NetWare file system NSS or traditional?

File caching, op-locking, or compression enabled?...

OpLock, Opportunistic locking (Level I & II) Client File Caching

Information on Opportunistic Locking

Can you verify a virus, spyware or some other corruption has not affected
Windows?
I've used these free utilities in the past to help troubleshoot and they can
tell you wonders about what is really going with Windows...

AutoRuns, Process Explorer, Filemon, Regmon, LoadOrder, TCPView, and TDImon

Re: Fault with v4.91 client on Windows XP SP2

Tony,

TFS Volumes (dont ask why), no file caching, no op lock and no compression.

Antivirus is same as all other workstations and if I downgrade back to 4.9 client the issue disappears.

Not sure what else I can look at as it seems 4.91 specific. Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,
Dale.

Re: Fault with v4.91 client on Windows XP SP2

There have been a couple reported issues with client 4.91 accessing file
properties and what not on traditional volumes.
Though it doesn't mention addressing said issues take a look at Consolidated
Support Pack 13 Public Beta where beta SP1 for client 4.91 is included...

Fixes included in the Support Pack 1 for the Novell Client 4.91 for Windows

Re: Fault with v4.91 client on Windows XP SP2

Tony,

I have this patch already loaded when I first noticed this issue ... and have applied all post patches after that.

Looks like I go back to 4.9.02

Cheers,
Dale.

Re: Fault with v4.91 client on Windows XP SP2

Rumor has it Novell been able to reproduce some of the TFS issues so I'm
surprised the fixed code is not included in the beta build of SP1 for client
4.91. Thats of course assuming you're experiencing a related issue.

If you have no attention of contacting Novell directly, please provide
Novell details of your issue at the "beta feedback" at the bottom of the CSP
13 - Public Beta site...

Thanks,

Re: Fault with v4.91 client on Windows XP SP2

Tony,

Will fill in the beta feedback although its not the beta's fault.

Will not open a incident as I have the 4.9.02 downgrade option that is far cheaper at this stage.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Cheers,
Dale.
