File Compression & Netshield Virus Scanning

We have a Netware 5.1 server with SP7 and I have the following questions
about file compression. Our server is scheduled to run the compression
task from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 am.. However, at 1:00 a.m. Netshield is
scheduled to run a VirusScan task. Because both task at running at
roughly the same time can file contention occur between both tasks?
Second does file compression require server files be exclusively locked as
they are being checked?
Lastly, if the answer to the first two questions is yes, could this cause
the Netshield VirusScan task to take longer to run at times?
