Filenaming woes

We have macs and windows computers here. The Mac users will write
filenames with wacky characters. My PC will see them fine (I am admin
equivalent), but the same Mac users will log in to a PC and not see the
files. Change the file name an bingo they can see the files when logged
in to a PC.

Ok, so I fix the folder / file names. But why could I see them? It seems
as though user rights are involved when they shouldn't be.

Any ideas?

Re: Filenaming woes

One more thing - logging in to ConsoleOne didn't show the folders
either. And it isn't just the badly named folders that don't show up -
only a few folders and the rest don't show at all even if their names
are fine. Almost like the bad folder causes C1 to hiccup and not show
everything.

In my example C1 and the user saw the same 12 folders. My XP workstation
and Mac users would see over 50 folder. Fix one bad one and everyone
is happy, even C1.

Re: Filenaming woes

What NW, SP, AFPTCP, and Mac OS version?

Has this always happened or only since what change or update?

Re: Filenaming woes

It is NW6.5, SP 5, AFP 2.05D (build 337), Mac OS 10.3.9 and 10.4.x.

Having worked with Macs and PCs for a while I am used to strange names
doing weird things, but this topped it and I have a hard time coming up
with a reason for it. I will see if I can reproduce it.
