HP Proliant DL380 G6 - drivers during setup?

Hi,

I have this server and need to install NetWare 6.5 on it...

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF06b/15351-15351-3328412-241475-241475-3884082-3999334.html?lang=en&jumpid=oc_R1002_UKENC-001_HP%20ProLiant%20DL380%20G6%20Special%20Rack%20Server&cc=uk

Can I simply do a 'default' install or do I need to do a 'manual' install
and add the drivers?
HP drivers are in NLM format, do I just add them the same as I would with a
HAM file?
Gone are the days when I could do a hassle-free smartstart build!

Cheers
Alan

The latter.

No, you need to extract the HAM and DDI from them. Hint: the HP nlms are
merely zip files, any zip tool should be able to expand them.

Re: HP Proliant DL380 G6 - drivers during setup?

Ah, didn't know that!
Having said that, I've extracted the contents of the NLM's, and tried adding
the files during install, and it says "No storage driver files (*.HAM,
*.CDM) or their description files (*.DDI) were found at this path"

I'm trying to install them via a USB drive/stick. The path is as shown on my
Windows machine. You select the path to the route of the files, not the path
& filename right?

I take it this machine doesn't have a floppy or optical drive, just USB
stick? That's pretty tricky to get working at this stage of the setup.
I've ended up formatting an old stick with NSS in another server, and
put the drivers on that.

Re: HP Proliant DL380 G6 - drivers during setup?

OK, now it has a CD drive...
But still, how do I force the drivers down it's throat?
On the console, if I type VOLUMES it doesn't show my CD drive. I guess from
the other console messages it's drive Y: but I specify that and get none
listed either. HELP!!!

Cheers
Alan

Re: HP Proliant DL380 G6 - drivers during setup?

Ah, of course... You need to not specify your storage adapters because you
cant see your CD, then on the next step, it loads the CD driver, then you go
back a step and repeat. PHEW! Really forgot how pleasurable a NW build can
be 🙂

Re: HP Proliant DL380 G6 - drivers during setup?

Questions guys...how were you able to install or get past the disk driver issue to install NW manually.

I tried installing via Smartstart using an old ver 7.90 had an issue no drivers for disk access. Smartstart 8.40 doesn't have drivers for NW or OS deployment option for NW. The straight NW 6.5sp8 OS disk gave me an error after choosing manual installation option re: NO DOS PARTITIONED HARD DISK FOUND.

Thanks

Smartstart 7.91 was the last version to include the netware psp.. Can't
you just install the server and install the support pack after?

Re: HP Proliant DL380 G6 - drivers during setup?

Actually, there is a SmartStart 7.92 that supports NetWare 5.1, 6.0 and 6.5.

Then with SmartStart 8.00 and higher, it is only Linux and Windows.

Jonathan

Re: HP Proliant DL380 G6 - drivers during setup?

Good to know. I made that statement based off a page on HP's site that
said 7.91 was the last one to include it.
