Do you read this the way that I do?

"PORTAL.NLM has a version number of 4.00.01 in NW65OS3A and 3B. In SP4
it has a version number of 4.00 causing the support pack install script
to over write it as being older. This file can be manually copied from
the OS3A or OS3B patch to the server to be current on that .NLM."

That OS3A or 3B is a newer version than what is in SP4 and therefore we
should download OS3B and copy the portal.nlm from that to the server
after installing Sp4?

Also, if you download Edir 8732 to get dsloader.nlm, it's in the
sys\system folder in the patch, but it actually needs to go into the
startup folder on the server.

I believe its meant to say to manually copy the portal.nlm from SP4 to
the server - but will verify.

Oh well in that case I backrevved. It reads as if the portal in sp4 is
older and you should grab the one from os3b which I did. That actually
has a higher version number.

Hi, there. It might be my problem. After reading all this I cant see what
to do. Can you explain in few words what to copy and where.

I think its meant to read that the Portal.nlm in SP4 is older revved -
4.0.0 rather than 4.0.1 - but is actually the newer version.

Yeah - think its a quote of a mis-statement. I'm pretty sure the
portal.nlm in SP4 is the newer one, and its the one that should be copied.

Copy portal.nlm from the expanded SP4 to sys:system

Can we get an official novell confirmation on this?

"PORTAL.NLM has a version number of 4.00.01 in NW65OS3A and 3B. In SP4
it has a version number of 4.00 causing the support pack install script
to over write it as being older. "

That part is just confusing. It says the support pack sp4 will
overwrite it as older because of the version and yet the version 4.00.01
is higher than 4.00 in the support pack.

The clear instructions however are the next sentence

"This file can be manually copied from the OS3A or OS3B patch to the
server to be current on that .NLM. "

It's telling you to take the one from OS3A or 3B and copy it back on to
the server.

Novell really needs to clarify this.

yeah, can we get the offical novell confirmation on this? <g>

PR said it was a "quote from engineering" so i just let that para go
when i edited the rest...

Re: Has novell released a TID on the SP4 missing files, etc?

it's not just you. i found it confusing as well - and i rewrote most
of that tid - and don't get that one para either.

that said, i don't think either one is a big problem so until hamish
figures it out <g>, we should all be OK in the short-term here...
