Hiding the "From" field in the windows tab

I am running Novell Client 4.9 SP2. I would like to hide the "From" field
in the Clients Windows tab. This is the field that points to Workstation
or domain. Which registry Key points to this & is there a registry
reference (documentation) for the Novell Client? Thanks

Re: Hiding the "From" field in the windows tab

James,

Aside from hiding or breaking the entire tab, I'm not sure you can currently
disable the Window From field...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Location
Profiles\Services\{1E6CEEA1-FB73-11CF-BD76-00001B27DA23}\ Default\Tab3]
"DefaultDomainName"

Re: Hiding the "From" field in the windows tab

Closest thing is the "DisableFrom" value (and "DisableWOFrom", if you
want to disable the control even during Workstation Only), which at
least "grays out" the control so you can't change it. (Still visible,
but can't mess with it.)

Both are DWORD registry values under the
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings\NT Credentials]
key (which does not exist by default; do not confuse with "TabInfo",
which does exist by default).

Re: Hiding the "From" field in the windows tab

Thanks a lot Alan!

Now, is there a way to check remotely what the From field is defaulting to?
That is, is there a way to know (on a given PC) whether it is defaulting to
the domain or to the workstation. Before I lock the from field & prevent
users from changing it, I want to make sure that it is defaulting to the
domain & not the workstation. Thanks

Re: Hiding the "From" field in the windows tab

Possibly.

The value shown in the "From:" field typically is not a hard-coded
value (at least from the Novell Client's perspective). For example in
your location profile named "Default", you'll see that the
"DefaultDomainName" value for the "Windows" tab is actually a blank
value.

> [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Location Profiles\Services\{1E6CEEA1-FB73-11CF-BD76-00001B27DA23}\Default\Tab3]
> "DefaultDomainName"=""

When this is true ("DefaultDomainName"="" in the Novell location
profile), every time the Novell login dialog comes up, it determines
whether the machine is a domain member (and if so, defaults to the
domain name) or just a stand-alone Windows machine (in which case it
defaults to the computer name). The only time an explicit default is
forced is when you have selected or entered something different than
the name that was automatically determined, in which case
"DefaultDomainName" in the Novell location profile will be set to the
explicit string.

So if you have remote registry access to the machines, you could
ensure the "DefaultDomainName" under the Novell location profile is
blank at the same time you're establishing the "DisableFrom"
configuration. If you're using multiple or arbitrarily-named location
profiles it gets complicated, but the default case of just having a
single profile named "Default" is straight-forward.
