Installing FrontPage Extensions on Novell 6.0 Web Server

I am setting up a website for an intranet at my work loacation. The
developer needs to have FrontPage extensions installed to use naturally
FrontPage 2000. Is this possible and where can I get the download. Thank
you much.

Re: Installing FrontPage Extensions on Novell 6.0 Web Server

I want to say that Apache 2 has the ability to use FrontPage extensions.
I could be wrong though.

He's using FrontPage? <shudder>

Re: Installing FrontPage Extensions on Novell 6.0 Web Server

Pardon me for perception density, but why would you want to use a developer
using <shudder> Frontpage micro-carp to build a site to run on Apache on a
Novell server????

The short answer is DO NOT! You can still use FP to your heart's delight,
just stay away from the extensions. They are generally regarded as a huge
security risk.

Re: Installing FrontPage Extensions on Novell 6.0 Web Server

Well the whole corporation uses Microsoft products here. I have the only
remaining site that has held to Novell Netware and plan to until contract
end. The person does use Frontpage and it works seemlessly of course on
MS servers. So the question is why do we have 80 people using 4 Novell
servers, ditch Novell and use MS since it works. The developer uses FP,
not much I can do about that I'm afraid. I know many hosting companies
advertise they use Netware servers and they offer FP extensions to their
clients. Somebodies doing it.

Thanks

The last word I had on the issue was that Novell was developing the FP
extensions, but the license holder threw so many spanners into the
machinery that it was not possible to continue.

Now. I develop web apps and have never had any need for any FP extensions.
There are so many better way to do the same things, ways that is not locked
into MS properietary technologies. Things like Java, PHP, Ajax.

If you use Java for example, you can move your code to Tomcat, WebLogic,
WebSphere, use Apache, IIS or whatever. No vendor lock-in.

Also, there is no problem using FP. Just stay off the extensions.

To cut a long story short, no. FP Extensions on Netware don't exist, and
never will. The rest is politics, I'll leave that for the others. <g>
