Load/Unload NLM From Client

Hello,
I'm looking for a way to load & unload an NLM from a Win32 client. This is for testing purposes - I need to unload, copy a new NLM to the server, then load the new NLM each night. Are there any facilities in NetWare to do this? I'd rather not require installing the NetWare Win32 client, but I could.

If NetWare alone cannot accomplish this, does anyone know of a utility that can?

I'm using the latest OES version (NW 6.5 SP7).

Thanks,
Peter

Re: Load/Unload NLM From Client

Could you run a script from cron?

Re: Load/Unload NLM From Client

I could unload and reload the NLM from a cron script, but then I have to synchronize the server & the client running the tests. This will almost certainly cause headaches down the road. What I really want is the client (XP SP2) to do everything so there is only one point of control.

Thanks for the suggestion,
Peter

NRM?

Between the console screens and the volume links, you should be able to do the unload and upcopy.

Re: Load/Unload NLM From Client

Yes, I can use remote manager to do all this manually, but not in an automated way (as far as I know). I need all this done via some sort of script or batch file from the Win32 client. It should all run unattended, once per day.

Have you looked here: http://www.netwarefiles.com/categories.html ?

Thanks Anders. The ServerSpy utility can do what I want, just not in an automated way. Lots of other interesting utilities there too. Still looking though...

Try Wolfgang Scrieber's remote.exe

http://www.wolfgangschreiber.de/

Under Client Tools -> Remote

www.jrbsoftware.com --> JRB Utils. Use serv_cmd.exe to do it.

IIRC is the API calls to do that not very difficult, there might even be a
sample you can blag from the SDK.

Re: Load/Unload NLM From Client

Many thanks to everyone for their help. Wolfgang Scrieber's remote.exe tool is exactly what I need. Works like a charm!

Re: Load/Unload NLM From Client

I found a utility that will work, but I'm also interested in the APIs you mention. Before I dig into the SDK, can you say if the NetWare client would be required to use the APIs? I'd be happy to write my own utility for this, but if it requires the NetWare client to be installed, I'll just stick with what I already found.

Most likely yes. Unless you really like programming and put those NCP
packets on the wire your self, which is completely doable.

if you install the sshd onto the netware server, you could use that via
one of the puTTY tools or your preferred ssh supporting activex control.

Re: Load/Unload NLM From Client

Sounds possible, but a little overkill for the task at hand. I'll stick with what I found - it should work out just fine.
