Login issue

Hi,

There's the situation.

We have a room where we give some courses. In this room, we have 25 computers where we fix the ip address on each.

We create an account called "Formation" and put the 25 ip address in the Address Restriction to restrict this account to this room. This account also use the DLU policy. Each people who attend to the course, use the same account (Formation) to log in.

Everything work fine with W2k, but some computers are in Windows XP SP2 and those computers don't log in with the ip address fixed. If we remove the ip address we can log in, without any problems.

Client version : 4.91 SP4.

Any clue about this ?

Regards,

Patrick

Re: Login issue

What server version and support pack are you using? What client version do you have on the W2K and Windows XP machines? Do you have a newer client on the XP machines by any chance? What is possible is that you have a server running an old NMAS version which did not properly honour address estrictions and that you are using a client without NMAS support on the Windows 2000 machines but an NMAS enabled client on the XP machines.

Re: Login issue

Thanks for your reply Marcel.

We're have Netware 6.5 (OES), service pack 7.
Server version 5.70.07
eDirectory version 8.7.3.9 SMP
NDS version 10553.73
The server NMAS version 32000709.14

And after some verification the W2K station don't have NMAS client installed (using 4.91 SP2) and XP station use NMAS on the 4.91 SP4 client.

I have other information about the problem : only ONE station can log in with the "Formation"'s account... but nobody else can after (on the Win XP station).

Anything can be upgrade to help solve this issue ?

Is it possible that you have set the concurrent login limitation set to one?

Re: Login issue

But do I understand you correctly in that you say that once one user is
logged in, no one else can login?

Re: Login issue

Yes, only for the Win XP with NMAS enabled client (4.91 SP4). But the message it's not that I not have any concurrent login available. But the TREE or Server cannot be found.

I just try it again...

For some unknown reason now it work...

- I log in on a computer.
- Try on a second one, don't work
- Remove the fixed ip address
- Log in on that computer, works.
- Put back the fixed ip address.
- Retry to log in, SURPRISE IT WORKS.
- Try on few more, WORKS TOO !!

I change nothing about the account.... and now it works. We try many times when we installed XP on those computer (what resulted to my first message).

I'm a little bit afraid that the problem comeback any times.

Re: Login issue

Do you have both IP and IPX installed on your workstations?
