Loss of directory service

Please i would like to know why some of my site Netware Servers often
loss directory service and it becomes very difficult to authenticate to
such servers when this occurs.
What do i need to do to forestall such from happening.

Thanks

Re: Loss of directory service

Compare this two Output after typing VERSION on my Console prompt.

Novell open Enterprise Server 6.5
support pack 03
(c)Copyright 1983-2005 Novell Inc. All right Reserved.Patent Pending
Server Version 5.70.03 Version 8.7.3.7 SMP
NDS version 10552.79 Aug 9,2005
Server License Novell 6 Server 650 S/N *******
User license audited

Novell OpenNovell open Enterprise Server 6.5
support pack 03
(c)Copyright 1983-2005 Novell Inc. All right Reserved.Patent pending
Server Version 5.70.03 January 20, 2005
Server License :-Netware 6 server Not Acquired

Obviously users cannot authenticate to the server having the second output
and obviously there is license installed in all the partitions.

I get the server Ok, Up by re-installing directory unto this server
through nwconfig(directory Option--install directory service onto this
server etc) and it works fine again.
Need to know what causes sudden loss of directory service and how to
forestall such.

Thanks

You sure resort to drastic measures to solve problems 🙂 Now, first of
all you need to get those servers up to date. Please upgrade to SP6 after
reading this: http://wiki.novell.com/index.php/Nw65sp6

Then, for audited licenses. There should only be one 6.5 server license
in the tree. At or above the servers and it should NOT be assigned to any
users or servers.

To add to Anders' response also make sure that there is a
NLS_LSP_SERVERNAME for each server. You can create this by running
setupnls from the console
