Mac address login restriction

How do you put in a login restriction based on the
workstations mac address. I need a user to login from specific workstations only. IP is not possible as the workstations are on DHCP.

You don't. If you're using TCP/IP, then the MAC address is not
available.

That's just not going to work for you.

David is right. Reason is that the MAc address only exists in the local
subnet. One you cross a switch or router the MAc is lost.

I have a workaround though: Have DHCP set up so that it assigns IPs
based on Mac, that way a specific WS will always have the same IP and
you can restrict in that.

How would you implement the mac address restriction on the local subnet ?

Like I said: Use DHCP to hand out specific addresses to specific MACs,
then restrict on those.

Re: Mac address login restriction

In case the DHCP maintainer isn't cooperating with the OP, but the workstations were on the same subnet as the server, what would his options be?

Use IPX?
