Mac iFolder

Hello,

I know that there is somemovement in a iFolder client for the mac. We still use 2.13 here on netware. Is there a way i can connect already with a Mac iFolder client on the old server? Or other options, i really want some powerbook of our company on iFolder.

Any sight on the new release?

Thanks for the reply

Edgar

The way I understand it is, iFolder 3.0 will be fully cross platform,
written in C# running in the Mono runtime... So you need the iFolder
3.0 server for a 3.0 client to talk to, which I am not sure if it is
actually released yet...

3.0 clients can do peer-peer iFolder...

Re: Mac iFolder

I received some info today that iFolder 3.0 is due out "shortly." The major complication for my site is its reliance on SUSE linux. 3.0 does not (will not?) run on NetWare. Installing a linux box implies learning the OS, learning it well enough to secure it, submitting yet another server to an outside security audit and purchasing additional software to enable tape backup to the linux box.

Personally, I'ld rather run it on NetWare but this might be part of Novell's gentle push off NetWare and onto Linux.

The issue (as I hear) is that iFolder 3.0 needs Mono to run...

The Mono port to Netware is having problems.

Thus, the iFolder code is technically done. The runtime to run it in
on Netware is not yet ready for prime time.

Re: Mac iFolder

that's gonna make it difficult....

Novell has been hijacked by GEEKS

we have 1200 that use Netware.
The company uses a iFolder a lot

Linux is not good enough.... Period.

We have a meeting planned 1st week in July already have a lot of pressure to move
away from Netware to guess what... Windows

oh well..

Re: Mac iFolder

This is rich. We've been waiting since the inception of iFolder for a
Mac client. It finally appears and you can't use it with NetWare! All we
have to do is completely redesign the network from the ground up. This
sort of abandonment of the NetWare platform is looking like the way of
the future. I'm all for Linux but does it have to mean the death of my
favorite server OS? I notice that it's also available on the Windows
platform. Seems even Novell is buying MS's BS.

Re: Mac iFolder

I'm another Netware user who isn't quite ready to support Linux in
production but wants iFolder 3.

OK. Let me try to get a definitve answer. From what I have heard is the
hiccup because of delays in getting the Mono runtime on NW, but last
word was that development is going forward.

As for how much resources are put into it... Depends on customer need,
soo keep those comments coming, here and at the link below.

Re: Mac iFolder

I'll add my voice here and at the link. I agree with those
who want iFolder 3 on Netware. I've been patient and waited
for years now for a Mac client. Every year at Brainshare, I
was promised it was coming. I have more than a little anger
at Novell now for the lack of a viable client at this point.

Re: Mac iFolder

Taking the good advice of Mr. Gustafsson I have made my submission to
Novell. Did I miss anything?

Explain the problem you are trying to solve within your organization:
*********************************************************************

I would like to use iFolder to provide file sharing and backup for users
of PC, Mac and Linux. I have been waiting patiently for years now for
the Mac client. Now that it is here it is Dependant on iFolder 3.0 which
is not supported by NetWare! I and many others were told that a client
was in development. We have spent years becoming familiar with iFolder
and the challenges of running it along side other services on the
NetWare platform. We were not told that when the client finally arrived
it would require adopting an entirely new server technology to support it.

Indicate how Novell could solve this problem:
*********************************************

By staying committed to NetWare while exploring new technologies. I
would appreciate it if Novell would commit the resources necessary to
follow through with it's promise to provide an iFolder client for Mac
and Linux, supported by an iFolder server running on NETWARE.

"Don't do me like that"
