Manual IP address - set a timed expiration?

When you setup IP addresses to be provided in a pool, DHCP will use
the 30
days or whatever time period you set for the subnet. However if you
want to
force one static IP address on a particular machine, there are no such

options, it's either permanent or to a particular date.

How do you setup a static IP address to be timed so that, for instance
if I
later want to change the workstation to pickup an address from the IP
pool
at a later date, I don't have to manually clear the address at the
workstation.

Thanks in advance,
James

Re: Manual IP address - set a timed expiration?

Your obeservations are correct -- there does not appear to be a way to

do what you want, unless you know the date on which you want the lease

to expire. But, I'm not sure that's a Novell limitation -- it may
well
be a limitation of DHCP standards as defined in the RFCs. Have you
looked into that, or do you know of other DHCP server implementations

that do allow what you're wanting?

Negative, haven't looked, didn't think about that. Will try to find
some
time to look that one up and post back here.

Thanks

Re: Manual IP address - set a timed expiration?

OK, I suspect its a DHCP design limitation, but if I'm mistaken,
well... it won't be the first time <g>.
