Memory issue

Hello everyone,

Brand new DELL PE 2850. Data was migrated from an old server to this one.
NW 6.5 sp3 OES and patched with NW65OS3A.
Still experiencing memory issues. Today I have an error message in the
Arcserve Runtime Message Screen that the Server is low on memory. When I
looked in the system resources I see that the cache memmory in bytes=0
Has anyone experienced this issue after the NW65OS3A released?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Memory issue

Maybe I can help, I have the the same setup as you do.

How much memory do you have installed on the Dell?

Re: Memory issue

Ok I have the same amount of memory too.

I had 2gb and added another 2gb. =4gb That is when my problems started.

The new post service pack server.exe 3a path monitors the memory usage
of the server during the period of a day then when a memory problem
occurs it makes a recommendation as to what setting logical address
space should be set to. I can see that you already installed that.

What I did then was waited until the end of the day and started a backup
after hours with everyone disconnected. I then got a message on the
system console telling me to restart the server with this switch.

-u676102144 so I restarted the server using server -u676102144 that
allocated more memory to the logical address space and I was able to
successfully perform a backup.

The switch that you need may be a different number according to your
memory requirements. Wait for the server to give you the message making
the recommendation. I am told by the Novell guy on here to create a
batch file with the server and switch included in it and to use that
batch file for future server restarts otherwise the same problem with
re-occur.

Hope that helps.

Re: Memory issue

Thanks for the reply Jason,

I will try the switch after hours. Could you be so kind and explain how to
create that batch file? I'm not very familiar with batch files.
Thank you again.

I don't believe SP3 is yet supported by CA either.
They are releasing Arcserver r11.5 in a few weeks that is going
to support SP3. That may or may not be the cause of your memory
issues.

Re: Memory issue

I think Jason has you covered here -- a couple of notes.

1) Consider also deploying the Post SP3 update for NSS

2) In the Dell BIOS is hyperthreading turned off?
