Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

Hi !
We have a Netware 6.5 SP7 server with around 45000 users on it. We have a NSS volumes called USERS where must of the users have a quotas restrictions.

How can I migrate all the users quotas restrictions from a Netware server to an OES 2 Linux server ?

I tried many tools like SCMT, migfiles, tcnvlnx.nlm, ... Everything is migrating correctly EXCEPT the users quotas on the NSS volumes.

Any ideas ?

Are your users lum enabled?

Re: Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

Hi Marcel !
Yes all the "dummy" users that I'd tested is LUM enabled. The quotas on DIRECTORY works fine, but the quotas that i'm talking about is directly on the NSS Volume.

EX : Go on NSS Volume Object / Properties / Users Space Restrictions ...

Any other ideas ?

Re: Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

Do colume quotas work at all? E.g. can you manually assign a quota?

Re: Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

Yes ! When I go through iManager and i assigned manualy a user space restrictions directly on the NSS volumes it works fine.

The problem is : I have 45000 students to migrate on 20 servers, it will be impossible to migrate these accounts and then re-apply for each users their space restrictions on each NSS volumes.

... 😞 ...

Yes, I understand that. I just wanted to make sure you don't have an issue
with setting restrictions at all.
Do the same restrictions values apply to all student accounts?

Re: Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

Unfortunately not !

We have not only the students who have restrictions. Teachers have also different restriction depending who they are.

It's wierd that nobody report this issue yet.

Quotas don't need LUM enabled users on OES2 Linux.

But if Eric is referring to Volume Space Restrictions and migrations
just folders, then it won't work.. directory restrictions should
migrate, haven't tried becoz we only user Volume based.

6.1.3 User Space Restrictions Only Migrated in Full Volume Copies
In consolidation projects where individual folders are dragged and
dropped, or where a volume is
copied to a folder on the destination server, user space restrictions on
the source volume are not
migrated to the destination volume.

If your consolidation project is set up to copy an entire volume, with
the contents of the source
volume being copied to the root of the destination volume, user space
restrictions are migrated to the
destination volume. If user space restrictions already exist on the
destination volume, they are
overwritten with the restrictions migrated from the source volume.

Re: Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

SOLUTION !!!

Hi all !
After waiting and waiting for any ideas to migrate User Space Restrictions on a NSS Volume, I asked Hans (HBware - Home) to develop a tool to do it.

Hans have done many useful tools in the past ex : Homes - to migrate the home directory via LDIF files, context and group with a very simple windows tool.

So, he does the tool for me and now the tool is available on his website for a very low price.

HBware - Download list

You guys should take a look at it ! It's incredible how fast Hans works ...

Thank for your help.

Re: Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

FYI, this worked for migrating volume space restrictions using the miggui. I initially migrated folders from a NW65 server to an OES2 Server by dragging folders from the root of the source to the root of the destination. After the migration I noticed the volume quotas were not migrated.

However, when I created a new migration and dragged the root of the source volume to the root of the destination volume the quotas migrated as expected. No need to purchase software. Woo Hoooo
