Migration Tool & NW 6.0 --> OES 2 - file owner non kept

Hi all,

migrating files from a Netware 6.0 NSS-volume to a OES2 NSS-volume with the
Novell Server Consolidation and Migration Toolkit (version 4.2.709.14) file
owners are not kept. All files have the servername as owner. This is a
problem for the disk space quotas.

I tried to assign the owners manually with the Netware 6.0 flag (flag.exe
version 4.16) utility but it doesn't work well. After several files I get
the error: FLAG-4.16 PTF-980818-300: Access is denied

Has somebody got an idea how to solve this inconvenience. Is there a newer
flag.exe or another tool for that?

Thanks,

Horst Kerschbaumer

Are your users LUM-enabled? If not, I would recommend LUMenabling them all
as file ownership only seems to work reliably for LUMenabled users.

Thank you, LUM enabling the users solve the problem.

Re: Migration Tool & NW 6.0 --> OES 2 - file owner non kept

Hello Marcel,

my situation is similar but I'm migrating from a NTF file System and I need some tool like flag to apply the owner file.

Thanks

NTF? You mean NTFS and you are migrating from a Windows server to OES2?

Re: Migration Tool & NW 6.0 --> OES 2 - file owner non kept

The original error of the thread (FLAG-4.16 PTF-980818-300: Access is denied) occurs when the files is more than 8 characters and there is an accent (Ex:á, é, í, ó, ú) on the firts 6 characters.

I think you must have posted this in the wrong thread.

Re: Migration Tool & NW 6.0 --> OES 2 - file owner non kept

Sorry, but I have found this thread that describe a similar situation, the only diferent is that my source is a Windows Server.

Do you know any tool that can help me to apply the owner to files that have been copied from a Windows Server to a OES2 Linux NSS Volum ¿?

Thanks in advance

Sorry, I somehow missed the part that the original message also talked
about using flag to change the file ownership.
You might try homes and see if it works.
Another possibility is to use the chown command on the Linux server itself
to change the file ownership. This will however only work in your users
are lum-enabled.
