Migration wizard 8.1 slow trustee backup on groupwise database

I'm currently busy migrating our groupwise server to some new hardware but i
noticed that the trustee backup process just grinds to a near stop when it
reaches the groupwise database files in the ofuser folder.
Its going slow enough that it almost looks like its reading the files bit by
bit.
Before it reached those groupwise files it went really fast, has anyone seen
this kind of behaviour ?
groupwise isn't running, both servers are nw 6.5 sp5.

Re: Migration wizard 8.1 slow trustee backup on groupwise database

It took 2 and a half hours to backup the trustees, it took 15 minutes to
copy all the data over gigabit.
That does not look right.

A groupwise system contains heaps of files. I do admit that 2.5 hours
seems a bit long but then again, it worked in the end.

Re: Migration wizard 8.1 slow trustee backup on groupwise database

It took over 2 hours for just the ofuser dir in the post office, there are
328 .db files in there on our system and they're around 550MB all together.
Some files took only a few seconds while others took over a minute per file
before it went on to the next one.

Hmm...that is a bit strange. Were there any groupwise processes running
at the same time ?

Re: Migration wizard 8.1 slow trustee backup on groupwise database

I unloaded everything groupwise related, even checked through the remote
manager.
The actual copying of the files took only a bit over 15 minutes for the
entire server, including those db files which makes it even stranger.
I guess i'll just keep it as a gremlin and hope it wont happen again when we
need to migrate groupwise again.

Well, I presume you are not migrating your gw system every week 😉

Re: Migration wizard 8.1 slow trustee backup on groupwise database

We are also getting the same problem the trustee backup it slows to a crawl
when it gets to the ofusers directory, it was so slow (the migration would
have taken days not hours) we had to abandon the migration. We’ve done
many of these before with no problems this is the first since NetWare
service pack 5 for 6.5. We suspect it may be TSAFS, we will try it with
tsafs /EnableGW=no in case it isn’t this how can you disable trustee backup
during the migration in version 8.1?

Thanks
