NAMED Permissions Denied

We moved to AD this summer, but have been using Novell as a secondary DNS zone. Today, our DNS stuff was all wonky and the DNS servers show down in the DNS/DHCP console.

If I try to start the service, it says it's already running.

If I try to restart, I get Unable to lock file /etc/nam.conf. Permission Denied.

If I try to stop, I get Done message, but then it still shows it's running when I do start.

I have added /etc/nam.conf to AppArmor per this TID: https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7011945

We have not patched since summer, so nothing has really changed.

If I disable AppArmor, it works fine.

What do you mean by wonky? Is DNS resolution impacted or just the
management of it?

When was the last time you rebooted?
Are you running tight on any resources? Take a look at the ganglia
graphs on your system http://oesserverDNSorIP/gweb especially over the
course of a week.

What is the /var/log/messages (or elsewhere if you have dns reporting
elsewhere) file saying about this?
