NETWARE Licensing gone away

We have a netware server that has run fine for several years. Recently it started acting like it was limiting or dropping connections. Looks at the licensing and we use to have unlimited server and client licensing on this server..seem to have gone away. This seemed to become an issue when we had to use the Novell IP client versus Windows IPX client. Any thoughts please? Licensing Log below. Thank you!

Re: NETWARE Licensing gone away

i'd strongly doubt that these issues are related to licensing. what you have installed seems to be the license which is part of the installation media, it's a fire'n'forget one. can't think of anything which could go wrong with it, apart from explicitely assigning it to a server.
as you've mentioned a switch to IP on the client side i'd rather assume something related to mismatching duplex settings (IPX acts definitely more tolerant on these) or drivers. you might want to post more specific infos about your environment (all we can see is that the box is running nw65sp8). which post-sp8 patches are applied? which driver versions run? which client OS? which novell client build? how do the problems manifest themselves (error messages, high util on clients or servers)?
b.t.w.: you might want to rename connaud.nlm, nlsmeter.nlm, nlslrup.nlm as well as nlsinit.ncf and reboot afterwards

Re: NETWARE Licensing gone away

You should have an NLS_LSP object for each 6.5 server, in its
container.
If there is none, run SETUPNLS on the console, and log in to it as an
Admin user, supplying the full context (eg admin.Oname).

A unique 6.5 server license object should be in the same container as
the server object(s), or above that in the tree, and assigned to that
server. If non-MLA, a 6.0 user (conn) license needs to be in the same
container as the user objects, or above that in the tree, and not
assigned to any server. Make sure the two license types are
successfully
being consumed.

Re: NETWARE Licensing gone away

Thanks Anders. A while back we received message stating that the security certificate expired. We never installed one and could not figure out how to create a new one on the server. Not sure why that would matter. It seems that netware is generating the following errors on the console and dropping connections. Was licensed for 50 users perpetually then along came the server licenses a few years back. Thoughts? Thanks!

Re: NETWARE Licensing gone away

Thanks. The box has been static for about 8 years. Feed it power and cool air and it is happy!

We had to switch to netware clients 4.91sp5 for XP and Novell client 2 SP4 for win 7 because we were forced to run Ip versus IPX due to network configuration.

Why do we need to delete those NLMS? Thank you!!

Re: NETWARE Licensing gone away

Odd. The stuff you posted clearly shows that you have an unlimited
license (audited). Are you sure connections are being dropped because
of licensing and not something else?

Re: NETWARE Licensing gone away

this stuff has been meant to ease up life for license auditors. in reality it has been responsible for numerous abends and high util situations. while the issue tended to affect bigger installations rather than small ones i'd always prevent these modules from loading, even in a single-user tree.

Re: NETWARE Licensing gone away

this is desired nlstrace output for an "unlimited" license. can't see any obvious problems at glance. as Anders says: the issues you see are likely NOT related to licensing.

Re: NETWARE Licensing gone away

Thank you. These clients are also using Pervaisive for database operations. Would an expired security certificate cause an issue with either? The other peculiarity is that database files are being locked and not shareable even though they are market shareable?

Hardly. I take it you are using the client/server version of pervasive?
If so, then you do NOT access the database files directly.
