NOWS Small Business Edition????

Am I going mad?

I've just noticed recently the term 'Small Business Edition' has crept onto
the NOWS section of the Novell website.

My immediate thought was, 'at last Novell have realised the need to
continue with a true 'Small Business' offering and hopefully with even more
competative prices to compete with the likes of MS SBS Standard OEM pricing'.

But no, it appears not to be the case.....how very very sad.

All I can find is the original NOWS product literature and pricing.

Come on Novell....we need a NOWS SBS offering.....NOW (pun intended)!!!

AFAIK, there is no small business version planned. The pricing is already
very aggressive and good value. What else to you want for an SBS suite
anyway?

Mark,

Checkout this URL: http://www.novell.com/collaboration/

Under 'Products' it shows two products :

Open Workgroup Suite
Open Workgroup Suite Small Business Edition

Why show two products if no SBS version is available/planned?? Whatis also
a bit daft is the pricing for the NOWS SBS version appears the same as
standard NOWS???? Very mysterious...

As a Novell Silver Partner I have to disagree regarding the aggressive
pricing. A SBS version of NOWS would enable us to properly compete with MS
SBS 2003 Standard OEM pricing which for 5 Users is around £250.00 compared
to NOWS which comes out at around £300.00 for 5 Users (unless you sell at
upgrade licences).

Novell must not forget the SBS market and thus a NOWS SBS version would in
my view make their pricing even more aggressive.

Cheers,

Richard.

So there is! Nothing was mentioned last week at Brainshare! I have a
meeting with the product manager in about 45 mins so I'll ask 🙂

Hmm, been reading the site, and it looks like ZENworks suite may be
missing. This would be fine for SBS, but I will get that clarified.

Erm, but you are not comparing like for like. With NOWS you get SLED and
office. The MS solution doesn't include either Office or XP does it?

That's one thing I hope to find out soon!

Mark,

Any news?

It's now disappeared from the website, I'm guessing they've changed their
minds or waiting for some reason...??

All very mysterious...

Re: NOWS Small Business Edition????

At the last minute I noticed a brainshare introductory session for the
product but didn't sign up for it but I did download the IO107 session PDF
(which can be downloaded from the Brainshare site still). The amazing
thing is that Teaming was mentioned in the product. The integrated
Hylafax and Clam is something that caught my attention as well. I think
they were just trying to get a feel for what people would like in a
product to replace NSBS and Windows SBS 2003. Hopefully they didn't give
up on this plan because it looks like a sweet offering.

It has disapeared off the radar completely. I'll email the product
manager...
