I've done a couple using NSS and I haven't had any problems. Just make
sure the user you run groupwise as is LUM-enabled (though I think it
just runs as root anyways).

The previous being said, you don't get any benefits from running it on
NSS unless you're using one of the advanced NSS functions, so there's no
compelling reason to run it on NSS if you could run it on, say, XFS or
ReiserFS.

Re: NSS for GW on the OES_SP2 - good idea ?

I agree
use NSS only if you really need it
user quotas, directory quotas should almost be your only concern for this...

Re: NSS for GW on the OES_SP2 - good idea ?

many thanks ALL for answers !

As result - if i need Directory Rights as in NW or need Directory/user
quates - use NSS.

In all other ways: place for iFolder, GW, samba, ftp, apache... - use
ReiserFS.

Re: NSS for GW on the OES_SP2 - good idea ?

yeah, but remember that trustees are handle by NCP, not NSS
So, if you need to give NCP access to your users (by the novell client),
you can have reiserfs with an NCP share
ncpcon volumes
ncpcon create volume
or simply look in the doc pour NCP & ncpcon

Weri intresting..
I can mount any linux dir as NW volume ?
ncpcon create volume vol1 /var/spool/samba
??

But from Linux i can create 2 files:
/var/spool/samba/file1.txt
and
/var/spool/samba/File1.txt
and this will be 2 different files..

What will be see NW client from XP, after login and map this: vol1
???

Yes, you can do that
for files like FILE1.txt & file1.txt
the first one in the list will always show, the other won't be available

Re: NSS for GW on the OES_SP2 - good idea ?

No. or half now 🙂
This step by step:
1. I create 2 file from linux console:
/var/spool/samba/common/File.txt (this file have text: File.txt 9876 )
/var/spool/samba/common/file.txt (this file have text: file.txt 1234 )
2. with ncpcon create vol1
3. form XP Proof SP2(Rus) +nw4.91sp2 client log to the oes server, map vol1
as P: and see:
09.02.2006 18:40 <DIR> ..
09.02.2006 18:42 14 File.txt
09.02.2006 18:42 14 File.txt
2 ÆÁÊÌÏ× 28 ÂÁÊÔ
Both files have text: File.txt 9876

3. I delete File.txt from my XP, after this i see:
09.02.2006 18:47 <DIR> ..
09.02.2006 18:42 14 file.txt
1 ÆÁÊÌÏ× 14 ÂÁÊÔ

Why ???

Re: NSS for GW on the OES_SP2 - good idea ?

Why, I don't know
I'm not Novell eng !! I'm just CLE, CLP and soon CLE9
I would dig into that, cause this can really be an issue
under NSS there's an option for namespace, that you can change from long
to unix
under NCP, I don't know, maybe there is one, but I don't know
check under ncpcon, or ncpserv
