NSS volumes where do the files that have been purged go?

I have a user that deleted a directory and the server was already purged, where do the purged directory and files go? Are they on the freespace of the nss partition? Could an image of the nss partition be made with portlock and recover the files with some software tool?

Re: NSS volumes where do the files that have been purged go?

They don'tr go anywhere, they are just removed from the internal structures within NSS. Yes, they count as freespace. Portlock are your only chance to recover these files if not backed up, but not via their tools you have; you'll need to call them and see what the best options are. Most importantly, don't allow any writes to that volume as they will likely overwrite the deleted file data.
