NW Server 6.5 keeps abending...please help!

Hello,

For the past 8 weeks or so, our NW server 6.5 has started to abend/hang at least once a week if not more often. It mostly abends on Sunday mornings. I have attached the full abend log from the lastest abends. I've simply been restarting the server which is all we can do at this point but would like some assistance in figuring out the underlying cause. It looks like it has something to do with gwia.

Thanks,
Dave

Exactly. It's GWIA, and you don't have the latest patches installed.
Update is the answer.

Hi Dave

In the interim (until you can patch your server) you could try turning on "auto restart after abend" (unless you're in a clustered environment, or otherwise are running something you shouldn't allow the server to ran abend - I don't use GW and don't know if it falls into that category).

(To enable auto restart, at the server console type this):

set auto restart after abend = 1

Looks like you're possibly suffering from severe Dell idiocy. Your
problem now looks much like a likely hardware driver problem, and you're
running (thanks to Dell) incredibly outdated ide drivers (ideata.ham and
idecd.cdm), because there's aspecial Dell routine that stops service
packs from updating the drivers Dell installs in their setup. Check
where those are loaded from, I seem to recall it's a special directory
on c:\ somwhere, and get rid of that, and make sure you have the proper
SP7 versions in c:\nwserver\drivers, and *only* there.

While you're at ti, check your firmware versions (Dells are notorios
about that), and (we can't tell from here), if you do *not* have two
*physical* Spus, but instead have one doig hyperthreading, go in the
bios and disable that.

Forgot something. You're also loading the severely outdated dlttape.cdm.
WHat type of backup software do you use (I don't see any loaded).
Usually nobody uses that module, so I suggest to get rid of that too
(rename it in c:\nwserver\drivers to something else).

Hello,

In addition to what Marcel has said there are
on top of the abendlog's modules list:
LCMCIFS2.NLM Windows Native File Access Login Methods (Build 70 SP)
Version 2.00.05 May 10, 2004
Code Address: A9F4D000h Length: 0000E011h
Data Address: 9D1D1000h Length: 000016B0h
LSMCIFS2.NLM Windows Native File Access Login Methods (Build 81 SP)
Version 2.00.07 May 10, 2004
Code Address: A9F27000h Length: 0000F011h
Data Address: 9D188000h Length: 000017B0h
LSMAFP3.NLM Macintosh Native File Access Login Methods (Build 103 SP)
Version 2.00.11 May 10, 2004
Code Address: A9F16000h Length: 0000F24Eh
Data Address: 9D141000h Length: 000013C0h
so you load afp and cifs in your autoexec.ncf?
Do you really need them if not please unload the modules and if do need
them please update. The modules should be a bit newer then 2004 for this
SP7.

Good luck

What have I done that I constantly get confused with other Sysops
recently? (You're the third to do it within a week). <g>

That has no meaning, except that they were loaded last, which in case of
NMAS methods is pretty normal.

YOu cannot just "unload" NMAS methods.

NMAS Methods don't get updated automatically when updating a service
pack. That has to be done manually, or by e.g installing a new SP7
server to the tree (he will update the nmas methods treewide during
installation).

But anyways, it is almost 100% certain that these abends have really
nothing to do with nams methods.
