Naming Server Used for Transfer ID

I would like to used the Transfer ID option to go from NetWare 6.5 to OES 11.2 and I am wondering what I should be naming the server I am going to use as the target for the migration. If I have a server named Archive in eDir and want to have another one named Archive when it is done ... should I name is Archive from the start or something different and then it will get the proper name after it is done?

Thanks!

I've always used sourceservernametemp as the name for the target server but anything valid can be used, I would not name it the same as another server though 🙂 nor would it be possible because I believe you need to have both the source and target server in the same context.
When TransferID is done the target server will end up with the source identity which means it will get the same name, networksettings etc as the source.

This is a great guide to follow when doing TransferID: https://www.novell.com/communities/coolsolutions/oes2-sp2-migration-guide-transfer-id-scenarios/

Re: Naming Server Used for Transfer ID

I am in the middle of doing this right now. we have done 4 of 27 for our
schools. Definitely use a temp name and not the same server name. as stated
the ID migration portion will take care of the rename of the server when its
takes the place of the netware server in the tree. We actually had a problem
when we named the temp server to close to the NW server and it completely
messed up the hosts file, certs and iprint. NW server was named ces-server1
temp server was CES. problem was also that DNS subdomain was ces. so host
file got screwed up and became ces.server1.ces..... instead of
ces.ces-server1..... took awhile to figure out.

Re: Naming Server Used for Transfer ID

Thanks to both of you for the help. Hopefully that will help us move our three old NetWare 6.5 servers to OES 11 (or 2015 if I'm really crazy).
