Netware 6.5 server just quits

I have a new NW6.5SP7 server. About twice a week it will just stop, no abends, nothing. I have to hit the power to turn it off and then back on again. Is there a report that will tell me why it is stopping, and how do you run this report?

When the problem happens, what do you see on the screen? Is the screen frozen, or black, or does it show some error screen?
What kind of hardware is this? What disk controller and what network adapter?

The screen is black, If there is an error I can not see it.

This is a n IBM server with an IBM SCSI controller running RAID 5. I have had this happen twice to me when I am trying to copy a large file to more than one workstation at a time.

For starters, please make sure the hardware is on the latest :
- firmware levels (system, raid controller, etc)
- raid driver

Re: Netware 6.5 server just quits

Maybe it's more efficient if you simply post your server config by
following these instructions:

Download the latest config.nlm from
http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=C6he4eKewtU~ , install it to
the sys:system directory of your server and then from the server console,
execute the following command:
load config /sma1bjue

Review the resulting config.txt file to remove any passwords and other
security relevant information and then post it here as an attachment.
You should of course still provide the firmware version information for
the RAID controller that Hans is asking for because that information will
not be in the config file.

Will this work with NW6.5SP7, SP7 is not on the list in the readme file?

Re: Netware 6.5 server just quits

How old is this hardware? You're still running the ancient MP14PSM driver for your multiple processors, unless it's like 10 years old you should be using the current ACPIDRV.PSM driver.

Aside from that, to address the abends you are getting I'd apply nw65sp8 and allow it to update drivers; also go into monitor - server parameters - ncp and set

Level 2 OpLocks Enabled = Off
Client File Caching Enabled = Off

This server was new in August of 2008 and not put into service till July 2009.

Re: Netware 6.5 server just quits

After reading other post I see that I am not the only you with this problem. It looks like my problem is the version of the BX2.LAN drive I am using. If anyone could tell me where I can download a newer version of this drive it would be a big help.

The latest BX2.LAN driver can be found on the broadcom web site, e.g. Broadcom.com - Home and you go to the download area.

Re: Netware 6.5 server just quits

Sorry, I posted my previous message though the web interface on a slow
internet link and therefore hadn't checked the previous few messages.
Andrew is absolutely right in that you should not use MPS14.PSM. Actually,
I'm very surprised that mps14.psm got used on this server in first place
as all servers that have Xeon/Pentium4 or later processors, they should
have full ACPI support in the BIOS and the NetWare installation should
have chosen ACPIDRV.PSM as PSM module and not MPS14.PSM. This should
typically inlcude virtually all servers from 2002 or later.
So I'm really puzzled how MPS14.PSM got chosen on your server in first
place.
