Netware server trying to renew static IP addresses,

Hi,
I am faced with a strange problem. Have several desktop with an Intel NIC
adapter which I want to configure with static IP addresses. This works
fine with a Microsoft DHCP server, but when connecting units to a Netware
server, the novell DHCP server attemtps to release and renew the static
addresses continously. The lease time is set to 62000 whereas the MS DHCP
lease time is 90 days.
Any ideas?

Regards,
James

Re: Netware server trying to renew static IP addresses,

This is a known problem with Netware's DHCP and XP. The DHCP server is
passing a "-1" as the lease period for permanent address assignments. XP
interprets it incorrectly and thinks the lease expired a few seconds before
midnight Jan 1, 1970 and goes into a loop trying to renew it.

The workaround is to not select "permanent" for the lease time, but to
specify a lease expiration several years into the future. (I have mine
expire in the year 2030.)
