Novell Client 2 SP3 IR9 on Windows 7 x64 SP1 + DLU

Hi, I have a Windows 7 x64 SP1 Ent where the Novell client 2 SP3 IR9 is installed. Recently the user had problem with his local Windows profile. So I did a backup and then delete the local profile to force the ZENworks DLU Non volatile to create a new profile. Finally, I restored the user files. The problem now is that when the user locks his session, he then have to input is password twice. The first time he type in the password he get an error message about something that the password cannot be verified on the network... How can I correct this without disabling NMAS, which I need? And I already disabled hibernation. I followed this knowledge base.

Cannot unlock Windows 7/Vista/2008 with eDirectory Credentials

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi GuillaumeBDEB,

have you found any fix for this?

I have the same problem. IR9 installed on Windows 7 x64 Pro SP1. I haven't recreated the user's profile yet. It happens on 1 user so far but I had the same problem in another office where I had to disable nmas. I don't want to do the same that user that is in another office where it works normally. I am not sure it comes from the latest Novell client as I've seen this issue before.

Thank you in advance.

Hi OakFND, yes I did find the solution to my problem. The two steps are the following.

1- The user who's experiencing the problem must be log in.
2- In the folder "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Novell\Nici" the same user must take ownership again of his folder profile.

After that the user can lock the workstation and unlock it again by typing is password only once. Hope it helps you.

Have a good day!

Yes, the issue with NICI file ownership has been described in several
TIDs,like:

Re: Novell Client 2 SP3 IR9 on Windows 7 x64 SP1 + DLU

I know this is an old issue, and the TID that describes the fix does work, for 32-bit operating systems. I discovered that, for 64-bit operating systems, you'll need to add the value to the location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Novell\nici_x64. Look for the value, ConfigDirectory; that's where the registry fix needs to go - that's what I've found.

Hi,

Indeed this is an old thread. Perhaps you would like to try the latest Novell Client which is Novell Client 2 SP4 - several iterations newer than the one discussed here.

Just saying 😉

Cheers,
Laura Buckley
