Novell DNS want work

Hi!
i did f**k up the whole DNS and it was completly messed up, so i deletet
zone and DNS-server.
Then i recreate DNS-server and zone.
Crated a A-record for server and a PTR-record for server

Ran NAMED and i could ping servername from a client.
Then i created a CNAME record for ZENWSIMPORT and pointed it to servername.
This doesnt work! I reload NAMED.

So A-record did work, but not CNAME. Then i deletet zenwsimport and create
a A-record for zenwsimport.
Reload NAMED but i still cant ping zenwsimport.

What can i do?

Server is NW6.5 SP6
Client WinXP w/Client 4.91SP3

Re: Novell DNS want work

I have to mention that the next day it suddenly start to work 😕
Do Novell DNS have som delays in its database?

But i can say something the original problems we had;
I wanted to test Zen7 Imaging and had to import a certain add-on to DHCP
and DNS. It was a special DHCP-option code.
To do this i had to export DNS/DHCP-database and add this option and then
import database.
After this the DNS was very unstabal. First det DNS-server refuse to load.
The only solution was to delete DNS-server and recreate it. Then it loads.
From this day, all PC(clients) loose DNS access to this server after
24hours. Then next day i could't ping on DNS-name that was registraded in
Novell DNS.
I have to renew DHCP and flushdns to get it work again.

This was a little frustrating and it was not enough to reboot the computer
and it was not enough to just flush dns. I have to Release, Renew and
Flushdns
Then i can lookup DNS-record from computer. I was trying to fix this and
at the end the DNS-server would't reply to any A-records.

Now i had enough of this and wanted to scratch the whole DNS and set it up
from beginning.
I delete zone and DNS-server. Then i recreate DNS-server and zone.
Then i create A-record for server and load NAMED. Then i could ping
servername!
Then i create CNAME for zenwsimport that is needed for Zenworks. This did
not work even if i reload NAMED and flush dns.

Today, i lost DNS-access again as before and i had to Release, Renew and
Flushdns. Then DNS is working again AND zenwsimport is working 😕
So the first problem did not get solved even after scratching and it still
is very unstabel.

And yes this problem is on all computers. They all loose DNS-access after
24hours!

When they "lose DNS", what does IPCONFIG /ALL show? Please post the output
of that command, and post your DNS server's address and the domain that the
zenwsimport object is in.
