Novell Directory Control on Vista

We have a VB program that has been running on XT for about 5 years. We have just tried it on Vista. Of course, it doesn't work.

We installed Novell Client 1.0 for Vista. We are running against NetWare 6.

Trying to do a "New NWDir" returns Err.number = 1AD.

Is there some problem with the OCXs on Vista? Any suggestions?

Dick.

The core cross-platform libraries themselves are still there in Vista
(NETWIN32, CALWIN32, etc.) and still supports all the APIs that
XP/2003 and earlier did.

Some older and long-deprecated API sets (such as PRTWIN32) were not
brought forward, and the Novell IPX library that was always present on
XP/2003 (even on IP-only installs; NWSIPX32) is no longer present
either.

Absence of PRTWIN32 and/or NWSIPX32 has caused load-time failure for
some older applications like NWADMN32; perhaps the OCX wrapper for
Novell functions has a similar dependency.

You could try copying PRTWIN32 and NWSIPX32 from an XP/2003 machine
into the same directory as the application or OCX to see if that
helps. Or enable loader snaps and debug the live application to see
if a failed module load even seems to be at issue.

The thought also comes to mind that its possibly related to security
or registration requirements for the OCX module itself when running on
the Vista platform, but that's not something I have any knowledge on.

Re: Novell Directory Control on Vista

I'm afraid it's almost certainly the UAC issue, but we'll check your suggestions. Thanks.
