OES 2018 SP1 Server, Can't lpr print to iPrint lpr enabled printer

It's BACK!

Just updated server from OES 2015 SP1 to OES 2018 SP1 and problem resurfaced. On the server can't print with lpr to iPrint lpr enabled printers. Patch that was issued for this problem (Update 4 - OES 2018 SP1 - iPrint - Recommended (Open Enterprise Server 2018.1 x86-64)) has been applied to the server.

Problem has gotten worse. With OES 2015 SP1 an lpstat -a would show the lpr enabled printers. With OES 2018 SP1 an lpstat -a returns "lpstat: No destinations added."

lpr -P LaserJet-Flow-MFP-M630z returns with lpr: The printer or class does not exist.

Have opened SR#101287242001 with Micro Focus.

Anybody seen this and have some ideas?

Update!

iprntman psm -l would not list any print managers, even though a ps -ef|grep iprint shows the ipsmd daemon running. Doing a iprntman psm print manager name in LDAP format -l does show the print manager. Found that the /etc/opt/novell/iprint/conf/ipsmd.conf file had the PSMObjectDN value in typless eDirectory format. It was also missing curly braceies surrounding the data. Changed it to LDAP format, restarted iPrint and Apache. iprntman psm -l now shows print manger. Did not change problem!

Did some further checking and found that CUPS was running. That's a no no, because iPrint and CUPS use the same ports. iPrint replaces CUPS on an OES server. Stopped CUPS, restarted iPrint and Apache. Now lpstat -a reports the print queues! But still can't print using lp or lpr. Get message "server-error-operation-not-supp". Even with the work around in place still get this error when trying to print. Found these messages in the apache2 access_log and error_log files respectively.

Got email today from Micro Focus support that they could duplicate the problem in their lab.  They are working on it and have notified engineering.

Email of 03/09/2020.

I am still waiting for engineering to review this issue. I have not been able to get it to work in my environment either.

This may or may not help you, but we're using LPR heavily with several hundred printers, and it's working flawlessly with OES2018SP1 (upgradedfrom OES2015SP1), even in a cluster environment. We also didnt have to do a nything unusual to get it to work.

But, do you have iPrint, either Novell iPrint or iPrint for OES installed?

So..., just to make sure that we are on the same page, what happens when you print to a printer from the server console?

Example:

lpr -P printer filename

lpr -P LaserJet-Flow-MFP-M630z test.txt

I get:

lpr: server-error-operation-not-supported

No idea, we're not printing that way (and I can't test this currently). We print to the LPR printers from remote SAP Systems, several thousand pages each day.

Got email from Micro Focus Support:

I have been discussing this issue with engineering and we were scheduled to debug the issue in my lab where I had duplicated the issue.  However, testing this again on my OES2018 SP1 server with the latest updates applied, I am no longer able to duplicate the issue.

I checked for updates on server and found that there were some, particularly "Update 7 - OES 2018 SP1 - iPrint - Recommended". Applied updates, rebooted server. No joy. Still have problem. Support engineer wants to have a remote session.
