OES Integration into existing Netware tree

I am going to incorporate an OES Linux server into an existing Netware
tree and was wondering, is it absolutely necessary that LDAP be running??

Yep, lots of services on OES linux depend on LDAP. I believe it's even
required to join the tree.

Re: OES Integration into existing Netware tree

I wonder if you are really asking the correct question. The most critical
thing is not whether LDAP is running or not, but what NDS version is on
your servers in your existing tree. There is a specific chapter on this
issue in the documentation:

http://www.novell.com/documentation/oes/install_linux/data/bxnd9j8.html

Note that the easiest way to avoid NDS compatibility issues in your tree
is to have eDirectory 8.7.3.x running on all of your servers (assuming
they are all NW 5.1 or later). That way, there is not much to worry about
from the eDirectory point of view.

Re: OES Integration into existing Netware tree

Thanks Mark, I believe you are correct. I was wondering though if there
were a way to restrict anonymous binds then if LDAP is required? Any
thoughts?

Re: OES Integration into existing Netware tree

Thanks Marcel, actually I was asking the question that I wanted the
answer to. I was wondering though if there were a way to restrict
anonymous binds then if LDAP is required? Any thoughts?

You can easy disable anonymous binds by assigning a user for anonymous
binds and give that user a password. That way, anonymous binds will
automatically fail.

Thanks Marcel, I wasn't even thinking of that, I think that method will
do just what I need!
