OES11 SP2 upgrade gotcha

Just discovered a good gotcha following our OES11 SP2 upgrade. Seems the eDirectory folks wanted to rebrand to "NetIQ Directory". Our backup software, Arkeia, expects "Novell Directory" to be reported by the TSAs and has a cow when it gets "NetIQ Directory". They (Arkeia) are working on a fix so it is not that big of a deal.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting that. I can imagine other TSA aware backup solutions might have a similair hiccup.

FWIW, TSM Tivoli (not TSA aware) doesn't have an issue here.

Re: OES11 SP2 upgrade gotcha

PS. Novell should update the installation docs to reflect how this change could affect programs using the TSAs.

Re: OES11 SP2 upgrade gotcha

Hi cmosentine,

We have made some changes and have reverted the changes that caused this
misheap to occur.

If you are able to contact me offline, than I can provide you with a
module that should work again.

email : hvdheuvel [at] novell [dot] com

Thanks
Hans

Thanks for the update.

For future reference please note that it's Novell OES11 and not "SLES
OES11" - Novell produce Open Enterprise Server (OES) whilst SUSE produce
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) which OES requires and installs on
top of.

Given the move of eDirectory from the Novell business unit to NetIQ
(both part of The Attachmate Group) you should probably arrange for
http://www.arkeia.co.uk/solutions/by-platform/novell to be updated.

HTH.

Thanks for the update. Arkeia is a great backup tool. I've been
using it for a while now and it runs well on OES 11.
