OES2018: File or directory not found

Hi,

in /var/log/messages I get an error:
logrotate is missing the file
/var/log/novell-oes-cred-store/novell-oes-cred-store.log

My system does not contain this file. Is this an misconfiguration in
logrotate or in oescredstore?

This will be due to the presence of
/etc/logrotate.d/novell-oes-cred-store which is installed by the
novell-oes-cred-store package.

By default this file doesn't exist and OES Credential Store (OCS) is
configured to only log errors - see
/etc/opt/novell/oescredstore/oescredstore.conf.

What you could (and perhaps Micro Focus should) do is add "missingok"
for /var/log/novell-oes-cred-store/novell-oes-cred-store.log to
/etc/logrotate.d/novell-oes-cred-store so it stops complaining.

HTH.

On OES2018SP1 is another juicy bug, logrotate is not starting because of /etc/logrotate.d/openslp-server

...

logrotate[7199]: logrotate_script: line 1: /etc/init.d/slpd: No such file or directory
logrotate[7199]: error: error running shared postrotate script for '/var/log/slpd.log '

...

copy pasted from OES2015 ?

And /etc/logrotate.d/novell-dhcp-logs.logrotate is complaining about missing /var/log/dhcpd.log ...

I hope, that in SP2 will be this fixed 😉

interesting that all of the OES2018.1 boxes I've checked have that missingok in that logrotate file.  So perhaps that has been patched along the way since you posted this.

But it is missing from the /etc/logrotate.d/novell-nit causing similar errors on the systems that don't have nss volumes (i.e. without novell-nit installed/running)   Added 'missingok' in those cases I've found so far.

There are so many problem in that area... The bug here is that dhcpd.log is indeed missing, but then, when you fix that, the novell-dhcp-logs-logrotate still doesn't work as it attempts to bounce the syslog-ng process, which doesn't exist anymore in oes2018/sles12, the correct one is rsyslogd.

So much copy and pasting.... <sigh>

This seems to be a SLES one as /etc/init.d/slpd is referenced for postrotate even on a plain SLES box.
