Odd files being created

The problem is this: every Sunday, between 7:00 AM and 7:07 AM just over
18,000 files are generated at the root of the SYS volume on one of our
remote servers. The files are all exactly 36 bytes, and have what I assume
are randomly generated names like QSAHP52K.DV0 or 9G6715AS.DPO. If I do
nothing the number stays the same - ie the next Sunday another 18,000 files
are not generated.

I posted this problem a while ago and was advised to update the server to
the latest service pack. I have done that.

The problem occurs only on this one server, and all our servers are
essentially identical.

Details:

NW v6.5 Support Pack 5 - CPR Release
Support Pack Revision 05
Server Version 5.70.05 April 11, 2006
eDirectory version 8.7.3.7 SMP
NDS version 1005279

It is also running the latest SERVER.EXE.

There is nothing I can think of that runs at that time every Sunday and no
other time. We perform a full backup with Backup Express on Sundays, but
that occurs at 1:00 AM on the Sunday.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? My main concern is it is very slow
to attach to the server. Simply trying to open SYS takes a minimum of 5
minutes if not more.

Re: Odd files being created

Running Groupwise on that server ?, if so, which version - they look like
temporary indexer files.

Re: Odd files being created

Yes we are.

GWIA V 6.5.3
GroupWise MTA 7.0
GW WebAccess Agent 6.5.3
GroupWise POA 7.0

(We're in the process of moving to GW 7)

This did not start with the upgrade. It has been going on for months.

Re: Odd files being created

Is SYS traditional or NSS ?. I'm still bit puzzled as to why only
Sundays, any GWCheck scheduled jobs running then ?, it could be that job
clashing with an over eager virus scanner

Re: Odd files being created

SYS is NSS. No scheduled jobs at all - I checked past console logs and that
time period shows no activity.

Re: Odd files being created

But any GW scheduled jobs wouldn't show up in the console log, you'd need
to check for them inside C1, properties of the post office
