Opening MapInfo Files

We run a program called MapInfo v7.x or 8 on our Windows XP SP2 workstations with various versions of 4.9 client. The work files are stored on our Netware v6.5 SP3 server.

If we open the MapInfo files stored on the Netware server with the original program or ProViewer, the MapInfo Labels are scattered all over the place. If we open those same files from the C:\ drive or on a Netware v6.5 SP2 or Netware 6 SP5 server all is ok.

Can anyone help troubleshoot what the difference might be?

Cheers,
Dale Bentley

Re: Opening MapInfo Files

Dale,

Is the NetWare file system NSS or traditional?

If NSS you might want to have a look at the latest post-SP3 for NetWare 6.5
update...

Stick with client 4.91 with Update A for testing purposes...

Production patches for 4.91

File caching, op-locking, or compression enabled?...

Re: Opening MapInfo Files

Tony,

Good questions ... see below.

* TFS for all server in question (Netware v6.5 SP3) although NSS for post SP3 patch applied
* 4.91 with Update A on client
* no compression, file caching and op locking disabled

The other Netware v6.5 SP2 server that works fine for MapInfo has NSS, compression, op loc on

I am at a loss as SP3 seems to be the culprit somehow

Dale Bentley

Re: Opening MapInfo Files

I'm not sure the NSS update is going to help any if your volumes are TFS.
We haven't used TFS regularly since early in the 5.1 days. Is there a
reason your volumes are using TFS on NetWare 6.5?

Are these MapInfo files shared by multiple users?

If so, some of the record locks or cache set statements may apply...

Re: Opening MapInfo Files

Tony,

Still with TFS as this server has been upgraded from Netware 5 and we never had the sapce to convert to NSS ... would love to.

MapInfo files are not shared just stored up there for access from a few workstations if required plus they get backed up.

Our settings in this area are fine and have seen now Console messages to the contrary. I have escalted this to MapInfo Australia and will go from there.

Thanks for you help,
Dale.
