Org Roles

Hi, I need to make an Org Role to manage 1 particular OU in my tree. What sort of rights do they need.

It depends on what exactly you want that role to be able to manage.
Also, are there child containers in that OU ? If so, can the rights
flow down or should they stop ?

Re: Org Roles

umm, flow down is ok. Would I make a Group or Org role?

Does not matter much, but Org Roles cannot be managers of printers,
Groups can

Re: Org Roles

Are you asking how to create a Group? Same as you do any other eDir object, use ConsoleOne or iManager. Once created you can populate it with users and give it whatever rights you like.

Re: Org Roles

Again, same as any other eDir object. In C1 you click on the New Object button and select Org Role from the list.

Re: Org Roles

basically, what is the difference between an Org role and a group?
What rights would I need to give to an org Role to maintain an OU.

None really. Both are leaf objects. It is just that Roles are more
limited in their use.

Re: Org Roles

we use ORG roles exclusively..one reason being that they don't easily see it
from their user object so they don't accidently remove themselves from it.

The rights we give are as follows
[Entry Rights],[BC] allow them to browse and create objects below this OU,
they cannot delete or rename this OU
[Entry Rights],[SBCR I] allow them to manage all objects below this OU
[All Attributes Rights],[CRWSI] allow them to manage all attributes of
objects below this OU
[All Attributes Rights],[CR] allow them to read all attributes of this OU
but not make any changes (see below)ACL [C ] does not allow them to
change the Inheritance of ACL or view trustees of this OU
Login Script [CRW] allow them to change the login script of this OU

and that's it...this works for us and it's been in place for over 10 years.
