Password Reset Self-Service

We are using a Windows XP client which after login, automatically authenticates against Netware. (we are running Novell Client 4.91 SP3 for Windows). We will shortly be updating to Identity Manager 3.x, and we would like to use the "forgot your password" feature.
Has anyone got an example of how they have implemented this onto the Windows Login screen ie. a button or link where if it is selected the user is taken to the Novel Password Self-Service screen to be prompted for their "secret questions".
Please "dumb down" any answer.. and if you have a working exmple you can point me to - more the better.

Re: Password Reset Self-Service

The forgotten password feature is an inherent part of universal password and password polcies. Once youhave a password policy that enabled the forgotten password feature and you create your set of questions, then you can simply enable the forgotten password feature which is already included in recent clients (since 4.91 SP2 as far as I know).
I'm sorry that I can't give you all the aspects of configuring this in a short answer here, but you should really read the password management documentation here:
Novell Doc: Password Management 3.2 Doc - Table of Contents
All this works without IDM, but with IDM, you get the additional facility of the user application which is a web interface that allows users to manage their passwords (and other things). Novell has even a client plugin somweher that allows you to access the user application directly from the login window. However generally, the forgotten password feature built into the client should be enough.

Marcel,

Thanks for your reply, but I think you may have misunderstood my configuration. My problem is that the users don't see anything of the Novell client screen other than a brief splash screen. The user's front screen is WindowsXP - Microsoft GINA, and they login through that, then run the Novell authentication behind the scenes.. therefore they can't access the forgotten password feature that comes with IDM.. what I need is some form of a link that I can offer them at the MS GINA end that will take them to the Novell functionality. Our configuration also only has one-way password synchronisation to MS Active Directory from the Novell eDirectory.

Hope this better explains fmy predicament and can prompt you to come up with some other thoughts.

Re: Password Reset Self-Service

Ok, I was mislead by the fact that you posted here in the Novell client
forum. What you need is the IDM client login extension:

Marcel,

This link looks like it is what we need.. the only problem is that the documentation doesn't seem to show a screenshot of the modified MS GINA after you have installed the extensions. Do you happen to have any example screenshots of what the GINA will look like after installation ?

thanks again

Re: Password Reset Self-Service

I have no sample screenshot but the effect of installing the plugin is
that just a link "Did you forget your password?" is added to the login
window just like for the Novell client.

Marcel,

No problems, I have one of my technical people looking at the information you have provided and we will be trialling it in a development environment.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Re: Password Reset Self-Service

We have just about the same situation. In going through the Client Login Extension Guide, it shows how to setup the Gina plugin which works great. The problem we are having is how how you install the actual page, https://hostname:8443/IDM/jsps/pwdmgt/ForgotPassword.jsf. Is there a way to get the password management pages without installing the user application or the 2.0.2 version of imanager?

Re: Password Reset Self-Service

Given we are here in the client forum, I must asssume you are using a
Novell client, and in that case, you simple use the forgotten password
feature built into the Novell client.
If you are not using a Novell client, then please stop posting in this
forum. Use the following forum instead:
