Patching Online Update Yast

Jump to solution
I have inherited 7 SLES 11 sp4 OES 2015.1 Servers. These will be decommissioned sometime in 2019 to SLES 12 for our LDAP eDirectory servers.

I do not know the last time these servers were patched. However, I plan to patch them in the next few weeks.

It has been several years since I patched a SLES / OES server. I plan on patching through the Yast Online Update. The Online Update Summary for needed patches has both SLES and OES patches available to select.

The SLES and OES Repositories are set accordingly.

My question is do I select the SLES patches first, reboot and then select the OES patches or do I select SLES and OES all at the same time.

Thank you!

Select all the patches.

The patches that you see depend on what the repositories show which in
turn depend upon your server being properly registered.

TID 7009973 OES11 Novell Customer Center (NCC) registration and
repository problems.
https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7009973

1. Make sure your maintenance is current.
2. Make sure the server is properly registered (or register)
3. Make sure you have all the necessary repositories.
4. Apply all patches.
5. Register the server again after applying the patches to make sure it
is still registered.

You don't need the install media. packages from the install media are
available from the repositories.

Thank you Kevin! I thought, in years past, whenever I patched, I had to continuously insert the installation media. Even though I had the correct repositories: Updates - Pool.

Ahh, that problem.
Those days just putting the ISO on server and pointing to that solved
that challenge.
Thankfully that all went away, I think in the OES2 days.
