Plans for NFAP to be MP-aware?

Greetings,

Is there anybody that knows if AFPTCP and CIFS will be made
multiprocessor-aware in the future?

We are budgeting for our next fiscal year and need to know whether it

would be best to buy fewer MP servers or more UP servers.

Sorry - I've asked this question before. I am trying to get an
authoritative answer, e.g. somebody from Novell...

For NW5.1 or NW6.0? I will see what I can find out.

Re: Plans for NFAP to be MP-aware?

You mean NFAP is not utilizing MP? Never thought to check. Yikes, to
think of
the $$$ we spent just for multiple CPU's for it... I wish little
things like
this were brought more plainly into sight when Novell markets their
products.

Re: Plans for NFAP to be MP-aware?

NFAP by itself is not MP aware. Netware 5.1 and 6.0 ARE MP aware on
certain
modules. Netware 6 utilizes MP servers great. NFAP doesn't directly
use a
second processor, but NSS and the TCP/IP stack DO!!! So, when you are

writing to or reading from a disk on Netware, the TCP/IP communication
and
the disk functions DO use the second processor. I have a four
processor
server that I purchased off eBay. NSS and TCP/IP do use the third and

fourth processor slightly. The law of diminishing returns applys
greatly
though. The third and fourth processors are so under utilized that it

almost hampers performance because the OS has to manage them.

Re: Plans for NFAP to be MP-aware?

As far as I can tell: I've never seen AFPTCP.NLM on CPU1 (on my 2-CPU

box) and all the threads are listed as running in 'Classic NetWare'
within remote manager.

I think we will be sticking to the fastest uniprocessor servers we can

find (we also have a lot of bindery connections from the MS client for

NetWare - so there are additional factors for us).
