Pure-ftp and novell-pure-ftp

When updating an OES 11 server with following patch :
OES SP1 December 2014 HOT Patch 10085

There is a warning with pure-ftp and novell-oes-pure-ftp
It seems the Novell-oes-pure-ftp wants to replace pure-ftp.
- Is that correct ?
- Will the FTP server still work ?
- Or do I have to change the setup files again after this update ?

So this server is running OES11 SP1? If so, you should upgrade it to
OES11 SP2.

Yes, both packages provide the same functionality although different
versions of the same files - each package seems to contain different
fixes with novell-oes-pure-ftpd seemingly "forked" from pure-ftpd. Note
novell-oes-pure-ftpd also includes /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd-stop.pl.

It should do.

I would take a copy of /etc/pure-ftpd before replacing pure-ftpd with
novell-oes-pure-ftpd and then compare the files afterwards.

HTH.

I would also take a copy of /etc/pam.d/pure-ftpd

As pure-ftpd and novell-oes-pure-ftpd use different pam configurations.

novell-oes-pure-ftpd is intended for eDirectory user logins only. Pam config is set to use pam_nam to interface with Novell Account Management. And the pure-ftpd binary in novell-oes-pure-ftpd contains enhancements to allow OES NCP to work behind the scenes and get your FTP sessions to any NCP volume you want, in the tree, from one FTP server. Regular pure-ftpd does not have those features, and does not typically use pam_nam in it's pam configuration.

Technically, you could use either pure-ftpd or novell-oes-pure-ftpd on an OES system. But each would give you different abilities.
