Recovering from a crashed server, corrupt SYS volume

I have a NW 6.5 SP5 server that appears to have lots of corruption on the
SYS volume. Other volumes may be corrupt also. The SYS volume appears to
span over two Raid containers.

The server had a RAID issue and this problem was resolved, but the SYS
volume has errors and corruption. Server will not reboot without abending.

I can get server to boot without Autoexec. The other volumes will not
mount without abending server. Do not have Network connectivity. I am
able to pull up NWconfig but when I tried COPY system files the server
just goes into a repeated FATAL error condition and then locks up.

How can I recreate the SYS volume and not destroy the other volumes? If
this is possible.

There apparently are either no backups or dated backups.

The volumes are traditional.

thanks,
Linda

Re: Recovering from a crashed server, corrupt SYS volume

Are the drives truly separate from the sys drives? The experts here may
disagree with me, but I have taken volumes from one server and plugged them
into a different server and had the volume data recovered.

If that works the drives can be installed in any machine

Of course, another option is Portlock, but I assume you have no need to
recover data from SYS?.

Re: Recovering from a crashed server, corrupt SYS volume

You could try a rebuild:

nss /poolrebuild /purge

If possible, I'd hide the physical disks that the other volumes are on. Then I'd
reinstall the OS from the original source media.

Re: Recovering from a crashed server, corrupt SYS volume

The volumes are traditional.

Apparently SYS spreads across 2 different RAID 5 containers.

The RAID 5 is with 3 drives.

I tried to COPY systems files in NWCONFIG. Failed, server just
went into a repeated failed message.

I couldn't reapply SP5.

I tried Install and said only REMOVE SYS. It looks like it removed all
volumes. Has this happened to anyone else?

Re: Recovering from a crashed server, corrupt SYS volume

Why do you think it removed all volumes? Have you had the other volumes in
a system with a working sys volume yet?
