Reinstall OES - keep eDir?

Hi Guys

We have an OES (no SP) running here, that is kind-a sick.
Dependencies are broken and a few other things.

I want to reinstall the server (it's a VMWare based server).

Can I do the following:

Shut eDir etc. down properly on the server.

Then save the contents of
/var/opt/novell/eDirectory
/var/opt/novell/nici
/etc/opt/novell/eDirectory

remove the root disk.

Install OES SP1 (for a later easy upgrade to SP2)

Copy back the eDir/nici files

Start eDir

The eDir is going to change version this way, but as I can't do any installs on the box (as dependencies are broken), I can't upgrade it before.
The upgrade from OES noSP to OES SP1 is in my experience a very troubled one, so I think if this is possible, it would be the best way to upgrade it.

There was an article on Novell Coolsolutions about how to do this. But Novell did an upgrade of coolsolutions yesterday and now many articles there are gone 😞

Maybe the missing articles will be available again soon.

Or a script to do the same backup:

Good luck.

Re: Reinstall OES - keep eDir?

Ahh, excellent little script.
And as I can see the eDir backup is all that's needed for keeping the edirectory 'identity' for the server, right?
