Rejecting the delete request iFolder 3.8.0.8

Hi, we're running iFolder 3.8.0.8 (rpm ifolder3-enterprise-3.8.0.11059.1-0.6.1) on OES2 SP2.

I'm occasionally seeing the following error message in the logs:

2011-09-08 06:58:52,507 [-1392530528] FATAL Simias.Sync.SyncService - Attempt to delete users as part of domain sync. Rejecting the delete request.

I've searched in every place I can think of and haven't run across this documented anywhere. I'm wondering if anyone here can shed some light on what it means. It seems pretty straightforward as to what probably isn't happening, but how do I go about tracking down the cause? What user it's complaining about would be very helpful.

I have confirmed that a user removed from the LDAP backend, which happens to be eDirectory on Netware 6.5, is removed from the iFolder system after the grace period.

I know I probably should move to OES2 SP3 and get to 3.8.4.x to see if this is resolved but I thought I'd check to see if there are any ideas before moving forward with that.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Heath

Re: Rejecting the delete request iFolder 3.8.0.8

With the current implementation, users are deleted when ldap sync happens ..i.e when users are deleted from the ldap source and the grace period is elapsed. This is confirmed you your statement that user removed from eDirectory on NetWare is removed.

For some reason, there are delete request as part of domain sync too. This could be generated from other clients or slave servers, which should not be treated as user removal ( as user removal is part of ldap sync). The log that you see is part of that request being ignored.

You may want to tell us what triggered this logs, anyway you user data is safe as that delete request is ignored.

Interesting... the only sync I knew about was the LDAP sync. What is the domain sync that you're referring to?

This is a single server only, no slave servers involved.

I don't know what is prompting these entries, they appear regularly in my logs.

Every minute or two from the looks of it:

Re: Rejecting the delete request iFolder 3.8.0.8

LDAP sync is only for syncing users from LDAP source to iFolder. We also have Domain Sync, Catalogue Sync and File Sync to take care of sync between servers and between clients and servers.

You may want to let us know when this started happening, what triggered this operation.

This log is because, the client has a deleted user node that its asking the server to delete and the server is rejecting the request. To get away from this you could rename ( or delete) your simias folder and provide all info again to recreate the account info on to your client. You will have to merge the folders again as after you remove your simias folder your iFolder information would be lost.

Re: Rejecting the delete request iFolder 3.8.0.8

Thanks for your help on this.

Ldap sync and file sync make sense and are obvious to me. I can't find a reference to "Domain Sync" in the documentation at all.

I don't know when this started for sure. We're not as good about monitoring our Simias logs as we should be. Looking at the logs I have available, it has been happening for the better part of a year already.

Removing the client simias folder and recreating the ifolder for the client causing this would be something I'm willing to try. How can I determine which user is causing this though? The error doesn't specify the account triggering the delete request.
