SCSI Card - Please Recommend for NW6 SP5

Can someone recommend a good SCSI card for my NW6 SP5 server? It will be
used for an external HP DAT72x6 autoloader. Right now I have an Adaptec
29160 but it seems to be having problems with LUNs.

I'm looking at the Adaptec 39160. Has anyone had any experience with this
one? My HP DAT owners manual recommends an Ultra Wide or higher SCSI
specification. They recommend a 64-bit Ultra 3 (160) HBA. That's what my
29160 is, but I need something different. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
D

The 39160 won't be different from the 29160 -- which should work. The
difference is the 39160 is two channels.

I understand that. I don't even really need the 2nd channel, but my current
29160 just doesn't see the drive. I'm thinking maybe the card is having a
problem. I want to try the 39160, and if it doesn't work either, I'll
return it.

Re: SCSI Card - Please Recommend for NW6 SP5

There were various iterations of the 29160 -- which one do you have?

Re: SCSI Card - Please Recommend for NW6 SP5

The LUN problem for Adaptec cards is generally a driver problem and not
a hardware problem. Therefore, using a 39160 will generally make
absolutely no difference at all because the same drive is used.

What you should try is the following:

1) Make sure lun support is already enabled in the BIOS of the SCSI
adapter.
2) Use some independent tool outside NetWare to see if your server is
able to see all the luns on your drive. You could for example use
Bart's SCSItool available here:
http://www.nu2.nu/scsitool/
3) Make sure you load the driver with the correct command line options.
This should be:
load adpt160m.ham slot=x /lun
Make sure you use the option /lun to enable lun support. Do not use the
obsolete Adaptec specific option lun_enable=ff
4) If this still doesn't work, try different versions of the
adpt160m.ham driver. Different versions are for example available here:

Thanks - I'll give those options a try. I appreciate it.
