Thank you all for your insights / ideas and suggestions. I think I've now
got to the bottom of this. FYI somebody had been sharing the documents via
MS Sharepoint, this in turn appears to have changed the document encoding
to UTF-8, hence why the same user can see the documents on one PC but not
another (different client versions with "Use UTF-8 and NCP's" set to
different values dependent on the default) and ConsoleOne / NWAdmin32 not
seeing them at all! I'm glad to have got to the bottom of this - I was
begining to think that senility had set in prematurely. Normally its a
case of "been there, got the T-shirt", it's worrying when after all this
time somebody manages to dig out a problem I haven't seen before.
