Stripe size questions

I inherited a 370-G3 2.8 GHz with 641/642 originally set up with 3 73 gig
drives in a RAID 5 with a stripe size of 16K.

I used cpqonlin to add a third drive to the array two days ago and it's
*still* expanding. there wasn't a whole lot of space empty to use as
scratch pad, about 10%.

The numbers I started with led me to expect a total expand time for 73 gig
of around 12 hours.

Does anyone know if the slow expand is related to bad estimation at the
outset, low scratch pad room or the smaller stripe size? Or maybe a
combination of all of them? Is this telling me I need to bring it down and
change the stripe size?

Re: Stripe size questions

Most likely the Rebuild Priority is set to Low, and it also depends on how busy the server
is (particularly with disk writes).

Change the Rebuild Priority to Medium (or High if you don't mind slowing the performance
for users).

I don't remember if it's changed with CpqOnlin.nlm or with the Compaq Management Agents
(definitely CMA/Array Configuration Utility on Windows Server), or even ORCA (Option ROM
Configuration for Arrays, but ORCA requires a reboot).

You can do both, but it has to be done before starting the expand.
Now all you can do is sit it out 😞
