Test Migration

I have never used a Netware server migration utility. I have always
done a fresh install and rebuilt the NDS objects from scratch. Tedious
yes but it allows you to undo sins of the past. I'm interested in
testing the migration capabilities against a live server. Is it
possible to take a new box and run the migration wizard to draw
everything over fromt the old production server yet leave the
production box intact? The reason I want to try this is that the
hardware for the new server has not yet arrived and I would like to
simulate the migration on some test equipment first.

Thx.

Re: Test Migration

The migration consists of multiple steps. First, the trustees are
backed up, then the data is copied, then the NBDS is copied and finally
the trustees are restored.
The only "destructive" part of the migration is the NDS copy. After the
NDS copy, the NDS on the source server will be locked and the server is
no longer operational. However you can simply unlock the NDS on the
server again and the source server will once again become fully
functional. Just make sure that the source server and the migrated
destination server are never active at the same timne on the same
network.
The unlocking of the NDS on the source server is documented here:
